The price of gasoline in Houston and across the country again ticked up as refiners continued their transition to pricier fuel blends ahead of the summer driving season.

The average cost of a gallon of regular unleaded in the Houston area increased 1.4 cents last week to $2.43, while the national average rose 4.1 cents to $2.65 a gallon, according to GasBuddy, which tracks fuel prices nationwide.

In Houston, gasoline costs about 29 cents more than it did at this time last year.

Nationally, prices have increased by 33 cents during the same period. That average is edging toward the highest level in 1,000 days, according to GasBuddy.

Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy, said prices increases have varied state by state, but all will soon see higher gasoline costs before the summer.

“No matter if prices near you surged or haven’t yet,†he said. “We’re all going to eventually feel a similar rise.â€
