Petronas announced today two separate finds have been made, one is the oil discovery at the Hidayah-1 exploration well in Indonesia through its subsidiary PC North Madura II Ltd.
“The well encountered an oil-bearing carbonate build-up with good reservoir qualities in the Ngimbang carbonate formation and tested at approximately 2,100 BOPD (barrels of oil per day) with good crude quality,” Petronas said in a statement.
It said results from the Hidayah-1 exploration well, located within the North Madura II Production Sharing Contract (PSC) offshore East Java, will be further assessed to ascertain its potential.
“The discovery at the Hidayah-1 exploration well marks an important milestone for the North Madura II PSC as it has proven oil potential of carbonate build-up in the area,” said Emeliana Rice-Oxley, Petronas Vice President of Exploration, Upstream.
PC North Madura II Ltd. is the operator with 100% participating interest in the North Madura II PSC.
The other is a gas discovery in the Dokong-1 wildcat exploration well in the Block SK417 production sharing contract (PSC).
The firm said the contaminant-free gas find in Dokong-1 in the shallow waters of Baram Province off the coast of Sarawak, revives the Baram shallow clastics play.
“(It) also proves the presence of more sweet gas opportunities within the area,” Petronas said in a statement.
The wildcat exploration well was successfully drilled to a total depth of 3,810 metres (12,500 ft) in mid-January 2021, it said.
Petronas Senior Vice President of Malaysia Petroleum Management, Mohamed Firouz Asnan said the firm and the PSC parties were undertaking further evaluation to determine the full extent of the discovery.
PTTEP HK Offshore Limited is the operator for the block, with 80% participating interest, while a unit of Petronas, Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, holds the remaining interest.
