The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Lundin Energy Norway a drilling permit for wildcat well 17/8-1 in production licence PL 976.

Well 17/8-1 will be drilled from the Deepsea Stavanger drilling facility in position 58°27'6.11"N and 3°31'9.19"E.

Lundin Energy Norway is the operator with an ownership interest of 50 per cent. The other licensees are Repsol Norge (30 per cent) and Petoro (20 per cent).

The area in this permit consists of parts of Blocks 17/4, 17/5, 17/6, 17/7, 17/8 and 17/9. The well will be drilled about 65 kms southeast of the Johan Sverdrup field.

Production licence PL 976 was awarded on 1 March 2019, APA 2018. This is the first exploration well to be drilled in the licence.

The permit is contingent on the operator securing all other permits and consents required by other authorities prior to commencing the drilling activity.
