ExxonMobil notified the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) of the discovery of traces of oil in the pioneer well 1-EMEB-2-RJS (Titã-1), in the Titan block in the Santos Basin. The milestone was reached approximately three months after the start of drilling at the site, which is being carried out by the West Saturn drillship, chartered by Seadril. The discovery took place in a water depth of 2,644 meters.

The Titan block is operated by ExxonMobil (64%) in partnership with QPI Brasil (36%) and was purchased in 2018, during the 5th Sharing Round. The area’s signature bonus was the biggest in that auction, together with Saturno, in the amount of R$3.125 billion.

This was not the company’s first exploratory result in 2021. In July this year, ExxonMobil had already made another discovery – of oil and gas – in the Opal-1A well, in a water depth of 2,600 meters. The well is in block C-M-789, located in the ultra-deep waters of the Campos Basin.
