The Brazilian Institute of the Environment (IBAMA) granted the operating license for Shell to carry out the drilling activity in block C-M-791, in the Campos Basin. The document is valid for 5 years and authorizes the drilling of up to three exploratory wells in the region.
Drilling in the block will be carried out by the drillship West Tellus. Ibama also gave the green light for Shell to carry out a short-term test. As a reminder, block C-M-791 was acquired by the company in 2018, during the 15th Bidding Round of the National Petroleum Agency (ANP). Shell (40%) operates the area in consortium with Chevron (40%) and Petrogal (20%).
Last week it was Petrobras’ turn to advance in its exploratory program in the Campos Basin. The state-owned company began drilling the wildcat well in the Alto de Cabo Frio Central block. The activity took place in a water depth of 1,831 meters, in the well named 1-BRSA-1383-RJS, within the Barra Velha formation.
