
ExxonMobil began drilling the first exploratory well in block SEAL-M-428 (Cutthroat prospect), named 1-EMEB-3-SES. The drilling is being carried out by Seadrill’s West Saturn rig, in a water depth of 3,093 meters, with an estimated duration of between two and four months.
The information was released this Monday morning by Enauta. The company has a 30% interest in nine blocks in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin with partners ExxonMobil (operator, 50%) and Murphy Oil (20%).
Last week, Ibama issued a license for the ExxonMobil campaign that is expected to drill up to 11 exploratory wells in blocks SEAL-M-351, SEAL-M-428, SEAL-M-430, SEAL-M-501, SEAL- M-503, SEAL-M-573, areas of the 13th, 14th and 15th ANP bidding rounds, in deep waters of the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin. The environmental license is valid for five years.
The entire campaign will be carried out by the West Saturn drillship. The closest well to the coast will be 67 km from the city of Brejo Grande, in Sergipe.
At the end of December, Petrobras declared the commerciality of the Budião, Budião Noroeste, Budião Sudeste, Palombeta, Cavala, Agulhinha and Agulhinha Oeste fields, in the areas of the BM-SEAL-4 and BM-SEAL-4A exploratory blocks, BM-SEAL-10 and BM-SEAL-11, also in deep waters of the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin. The company did not disclose the volume of oil and gas from the fields.
Production in the region is scheduled to start in 2026, with the FPSO P-81, which will have the capacity to produce 120,000 barrels of condensed oil and flow 8 million m³ of gas per day.
