The Alberta provincial government said on Wednesday that it had approved Suncor Energy’s Meadow Creek West oil sands project, although other approvals are still needed.
The 40,000-barrel-per-day project planned near Fort McMurray, Alberta, requires environmental licenses and development permits, and Suncor has not yet made a final decision on whether to build it.Â
If it proceeds, project construction is expected to create 3,200 jobs and, once operational, the project will require about 200 employees.
The site will include a central processing facility and associate facilities, cogeneration facilities, thermal injection wells, production wells, water source wells, disposal wells, well pads, stormwater ponds and infrastructure like roads and pipelines.
