Constellation Oil Services announced this week that it has signed new contracts with Petrobras for the charter of two semi-submersible rigs. The contracts involve the Gold Star and Lone Star rigs and will last for three years. The rigs will operate in water depths of up to 2,400 meters and exploration campaigns are scheduled to start between April and June 2022.

“With these new long-term contracts we will have the units occupied until at least 2025, when we expect to see a much better rig environment for offshore drilling companies. Furthermore, being able to commit these units to their contracts that are still in force only reinforces our view that the expected recovery of our sector is already underway”, commented the CEO of Constellation, Rodrigo Ribeiro.

Gold Star and Lone Star are 6th generation semi-submersible dynamic positioning rigs for operation in ultra-deep waters. While the Gold Star is capable of drilling to depths of up to 9,000 feet of water depth and has a total drilling depth capability of up to 25,000 feet, the Lone Star is capable of drilling to depths of up to 7,800 feet of water depth and has a total drilling depth capacity of up to 24,600 feet.

TotalEnergies began drilling the Marolo-1 well in block C-M-541 on the 31st. The activity is being carried out by the Valaris DS-15 drillship, in a water depth of 3,000 meters.   Valid for 5 years, the license issued by the Brazilian Institute for the Environment (Ibama) authorized the drilling of two exploratory wells (Marolo and Ubaia) and three contingency wells. The license also provides for the possibility of carrying out a short-term formation test in each of the wells drilled in the block.   Block C-M-541 was purchased during the 16th Bidding Round, held by the National Petroleum Agency of Brazil (ANP) in 2019. This was the asset with the highest signature bonus value in that auction, in the amount of R$4.029 billion. TotalEnergies is the operator in the area with a 40% share, in partnership with the companies Qatar Petroleum (40%) and Petronas (20%). Currently, this is TotalEnergies’ only exploratory asset in Brazil.   Join our mailing list here We are #1 on Google and Bing for the "Largest Mobile Energy Network" Come join our community!
