In a press release yesterday from Providence Resources it states that they have come to nominate the 6th generation harsh environment semi-submersible the COSL Innovator for work in the Barryroe, North Celtic Sea Basin. Contract commencement is said to be Q3 2019 the drilling program is primarily composed of drilling and testing of four vertical wells and one horizontal side-track, plus the optional drilling of two additional horizontal wells.
The COSL Innovator is a semi-submersible drilling rig designed to operate in water depths up to 750 meter. The unit is designed for North Sea/ Norwegian Sea and world – wide use in harsh environments. Station keeping is maintained by an 8 line mooring system or by dynamic position mode maintained by 6 fixed pitch, variable speed thrusters (DP3).
Prior to this announcement the Innovator has been warm stacked in the North Sea after its 8 month contract with Lundin expired August 24, 2018.
According to Bassoe Analytics the estimated dayrate is around 170k per day, although the press release from Providence Resources did not mention a dayrate, the rate of 170k per day is far below Bassoe’s current estimated fixture rate estimation of 300k per day for a 6th generation harsh environment semi-submersible.
