The well was drilled five kilometers south-southeast of discovery well 7220/8-1, which is in the Johan Castberg field, and 210 kilometers northwest of Hammerfest.

Equinor is the operator of production license (PL) 532. Preliminary calculations of the size of the discovery indicate between 37 and 50 million barrels of recoverable oil. Together with the other licensees, Vår Energi and Petoro, Equinor will consider tying the discovery to the Johan Castberg field.

Kristin Westvik, Equinor’s senior vice president for exploration and production north.

“Snøfonn Nord is an exciting discovery in the vicinity of the Johan Castberg development and can add valuable volumes to the installation in the future,” says Kristin Westvik, Equinor’s senior vice president for exploration and production north.

“In cooperation with the license partners we will consider a possible development.”

The Snøfonn Nord discovery was made exactly one year after the Isflak discovery in the same area, but is probably somewhat bigger.

Drilling of the well was carried out by the Transocean Enabler rig and is now completed. Transocean Enabler will move 800 meters further west in PL 532 to drill a new exploration well.

Snøfonn Nord is the 10th discovery in the Castberg license and the 12th exploration well to be drilled in PL 532.

The production license was awarded in the 20th licensing round in 2009.

Noble Corporation announced that it has entered into an asset purchase agreement to sell five jackup rigs for $375 million to a newly formed subsidiary of Shelf Drilling, Ltd. whose obligations under the asset purchase agreement will be guaranteed by Shelf Drilling. The sale, which is subject to approval of the UK Competition and Markets Authority, is intended to address the potential concerns identified by the CMA in the Phase I review of the proposed business combination between Noble and Maersk Drilling.   The Remedy Rig Sale Agreement includes the rigs Noble Hans Deul, Noble Sam Hartley, Noble Sam Turner, Noble Houston Colbert, and Noble Lloyd Noble and all related support and infrastructure.  Associated offshore and onshore staff are expected to transfer with the Remedy Rigs.  Following the sale, Noble expects to continue to perform the current drilling program for the Noble Lloyd Noble under a bareboat charter arrangement with Shelf Drilling until the second quarter of 2023 when the primary term of its current drilling contract is expected to end.  The charter arrangement would pass the economic benefit of the drilling contract to Shelf Drilling.  Drilling contracts for other Remedy Rigs are expected to be novated to the Buyer, subject to the clients' consent.    Noble will provide certain customary transition support services to the Buyer for a limited period of time.  The Buyer is expected to finance the acquisition through equity and debt financings by the Buyer and Shelf Drilling, but the purchase is not conditioned on such financing.  The Remedy Rig Sale is expected to close promptly following closing of the Business Combination (and following receipt of CMA approval).  Additional information related to our Remedy Rig Sale will be provided in an 8-K expected to be filed by the Company on June 23, 2022.   Maersk Drilling has secured a contract from Shell UK for the provision of the harsh-environment jack-up rig Maersk Resilient for the drilling of the Pensacola well in the UK sector of the North Sea.   The contract is expected to commence in the second half of 2022, in direct continuation of the rig’s previous work scope with Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij (NAM), with an estimated duration of approx. two months.   'We’re delighted to announce this contract which firms up Maersk Resilient’s drilling program for most of 2022 and will allow the Resilient team to build even further on the excellent collaboration that was established with NAM and the Shell organization during last year’s campaign at Galleon,' says COO Morten Kelstrup of Maersk Drilling.
