Rig count down 4 to 1,044 in the US | OutPut by Rig Lynx

The US drilling rig count reached 1,044 units working for the week ended Aug. 3, down 4 rigs from a week ago, according to Baker Hughes data. The count is up 90 units from this time a year ago when the count stood at 954.

Offshore units were up 1 rig from last week with 17 rigs working. A total of 1,025 rigs were drilling on land, down 5 units from last week. The number of rigs drilling in inland waters remained unchanged at 2 units working.

US oil-directed rigs were down 2 units to 859 and up from the 765 rigs drilling for oil this week a year ago. Gas-directed rigs were down 3 units to 183. This time a year ago, 189 units were drilling for gas.

Among the major oil and gas-producing states, Wyoming saw the largest gain with an increase of 2 units to a total of 30 rigs working.

Louisiana and Pennsylvania each gained 1 rig to hit 53 and 40 rigs running, respectively.

Seven states were unchanged this week, namely Texas, 524; Oklahoma, 137; Ohio, 22; California, 15; Utah, 6; Kansas, 1; and Arkansas, 1.

The rig count in West Virginia fell 3 units to 14. New Mexico and Colorado each lost 2 units to reach 102 and 30 units working, respectively. North Dakota, at 56, and Alaska, at 5, each dropped 1 rig.

Canada’s rig count remained unchanged after weeks of gains. At 223 rigs running, the count is up from the 217 units working a year ago. Canada dropped 2 oil-directed rigs to reach 152 for the week ended Aug. 3 while gaining 2 gas-directed units to reach 71.
