Shelf Drilling, Ltd. announced on Monday by Press release that it has received an award for a one-year contract for the Trident 16 jack-up rig with Belayim Petroleum Company (Petrobel) for operations in the Gulf of Suez, offshore Egypt.
The contract includes mutually agreeable options, and the planned start-up of operations is Q1 2019. Petrobel is a joint venture of Eni S.p.A. (BIT: ENI) and Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC).
The Trident 16 is a 1982 Modec 300-C38 built by Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding and is currently on contract with Gempetco at a dayrate of 52k per day, while the startup with Petrobel will be slightly lower as estimated by Bassoe Analytics at 44k per day but just to remind the readers that the current market value of the rig is sitting around 4 – 6 million. A year of work after operating cost puts the revenue back to Shelf at an amount that makes the 44k profitable.
