(Bassoe Analytics) Contracting activity held steady into 2019, but higher volume and longer average duration are still lacking. Recent notable fixtures are Chevron’s 5-year contract to Transocean for their dual-20k newbuild drillship and one-year extensions for Ensco and Noble in Nigeria and Guyana. Petrobras’ two-rig Mero tender should also be signed soon with Transocean (Ocean Rig Mykonos and Corcovado) winning the jobs. Average dayrates are expected to slowly drift upwards throughout the year.Â
In sales and scrapping news, the Transocean 706 is currently being partially dismantled in Spain before going to Turkey for scrapping later this quarter.
And just out – Ensco announced today that it has proposed an increase in the exchange ratio for its all-stock combination with Rowan. The new proposal represents a 17.4% increase from the original terms in October 2018.
As our readers know Transocean acquired the Mykonos and Corcovado during the buying of competitor Ocean Rig, both deepwater drillships are Marshall Island flagged, built in 2011 and are currently idle in Las Palmas, Spain.
