TotalEnergies began drilling the Marolo-1 well in block C-M-541 on the 31st. The activity is being carried out by the Valaris DS-15 drillship, in a water depth of 3,000 meters.
Valid for 5 years, the license issued by the Brazilian Institute for the Environment (Ibama) authorized the drilling of two exploratory wells (Marolo and Ubaia) and three contingency wells. The license also provides for the possibility of carrying out a short-term formation test in each of the wells drilled in the block.
Block C-M-541 was purchased during the 16th Bidding Round, held by the National Petroleum Agency of Brazil (ANP) in 2019. This was the asset with the highest signature bonus value in that auction, in the amount of R$4.029 billion. TotalEnergies is the operator in the area with a 40% share, in partnership with the companies Qatar Petroleum (40%) and Petronas (20%). Currently, this is TotalEnergies’ only exploratory asset in Brazil.
