The US drilling rig count is down 2 units to 1,053 rigs working for the week ended Sept. 21, according to Baker Hughes data. The count is up 118 units from the 935 rigs working this time a year ago.
The 2 rigs dropped were from those drilling on land. A total of 1,028 rigs were drilling on land for the week. Offshore units and those drilling in inland waters remained unchanged with 20 and 5 units working, respectively.
US oil-directed rigs were down a single unit from last week at 866 units working, and up from the 744 rigs drilling for oil this week a year ago. Gas-directed rigs remained unchanged at 186 units, but down from the 190 drilling for gas this time a year ago. One rig is unclassified, down 1 unit from last week.

Among the major oil and gas-producing states, Texas saw the largest and only increase for the week with a 6-rig gain for a total of 531 rigs working.
Eight states were unchanged this week: New Mexico, 99; Louisiana, 61; Pennsylvania, 44; Colorado, 32; Wyoming, 30; California 15; West Virginia, 13; and Utah, 5.
Oklahoma saw the largest drop, cutting 3 rigs to reach 136 units.
Dropping 2 units each this week were Ohio, 18, and Alaska, 5. North Dakota was down a single unit to 53 rigs running.
Canada reversed last week’s gain with a sizeable 29-rig loss. With 197 rigs running, the count falls below the 220 units drilling this week a year ago. Canada dropped 13 oil-directed rigs to reach 135 units for the week and lost 16 gas-directed rigs to reach 62 units.
Baker Hughes Rig Count: U.S. down 4 to to 751 rigs U.S. Rig Count is down 4 from last week to 751 with oil rigs down 2 to 590, gas rigs down 2 to 158 and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at 3. U.S. Rig Count is up 62 rigs from last year's count of 689 with oil rigs up 44, gas rigs up 17 and miscellaneous up 1. The U.S. Offshore Rig Count is down 1 to 17, up 5 year-over-year. Baker Hughes Rig Count: Canada is down 12 to 127 rigs. Canada Rig Count is down 12 from last week to 127, with oil rigs down 6 to 52, gas rigs down 6 to 75. Canada Rig Count is up 16 rigs from last year's count of 111 with oil down 1, gas rigs up 17. North America Rig Count: U.S. down 3 to to 755 rigs U.S. Rig Count is down 3 from last week to 755 with oil rigs down 1 to 592, gas rigs down 2 to 160 and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at 3. U.S. Rig Count is up 82 rigs from last year's count of 673 with oil rigs up 59, gas rigs up 22 and miscellaneous up 1. The U.S. Offshore Rig Count is unchanged at 18, up 4 year-over-year. Baker Hughes Rig Count: Canada is down 26 to 139 rigs. Canada Rig Count is down 26 from last week to 139, with oil rigs down 28 to 58, gas rigs up 2 to 81. Canada Rig Count is up 15 rigs from last year's count of 124 with oil down 6, gas rigs up 21.
