Jackup fixture activity is surging. In addition to the latest fixtures, six of the eight jackups which were awarded multi-year contracts with Qatar Petroleum in early May are yet to be named, another 15 jackups from the recent and ongoing Pemex tenders are yet to be named, and other awards in the Middle East, West Africa, and SE Asia are imminent. Utilization is at nearly 75% and rising. General market conditions (apart from dayrates which are still low) haven’t been better so far in this cycle.
One jackup, the Kedarnath, was sold for scrap, and Shelf announced the sale (for scrap) of Rig 124 and Comet with expected closing dates in Q3. More will follow.
