On Thursday night (19), at 10:05 pm, a fire was detected in the Alpha Star rig of Constellation, a company that provides drilling services for onshore and offshore wells.

According to information from Constallation, the incident started in the engine compartment of the rig’s starboard crane. Fortunately, there were no casualties or environmental damage. The brigade team was called immediately and adopted the emergency response plan. Within minutes, the fire was fully controlled.

Constellation also said it has initiated a process to investigate the causes of the accident. The Port Authority has been notified and the rig continues to operate normally.

The Alpha Star oil drilling unit had recently left the Brasfels shipyard and was about to start a new charter contract with Petrobras, which was signed last year for a daily fee of approximately US $ 136,000 .

Alpha Star is a semi-submersible drilling rig from Constellation, a company that provides services to Petrobras and other operators, which started operations in July 2011. This platform is capable of drilling in waters with depths up to 9,000 feet and has a depth capacity of up to 30,000 feet, equipped to operate at typical pre-salt depths.
