Maersk Developer has been awarded a 110-day contract plus four optional wells with Cairn in Mexico, commencing in September, 2019 according to their fleet status update.
Although Cairn has not noted the contract award on their website they did state in their operational update from January 22, 2019 that they would be drilling three exploration wells that are planned in shallow water Gulf of Mexico for Q3 and Q4 2019.
In Block 9 (Cairn Operator 65% WI) drilling operations on the first well are expected to commence in Q3, followed by the second well in Q4 2019. In Block 7, (Cairn 30% WI) drilling is planned for Q3 2019.
The Maersk Developer is a 2009 model KFELS/MSC DSS 21 6th generation semi-submersible built in KeppelFELS and can drill in water depths up to 10,000′.
Just as a note at the end of the fourth quarter of 2018, Maersk Drilling’s contract backlog was USD 2.5bn.
