In Transocean’s fleet status report yesterday it notated that they intend to scrap the Ocean Rig Paros in an environmentally responsible manner; the rig is classified as held for sale.
Just to remind our readers that the Ocean Rig Paros was originally the Cerrado that was owned by Schahin Oil and Gas, the company filed bankruptcy in April 2015 and Ocean Rig stepped in and picked the rig up for 65 million.
The Cerrado had previously been under contract with Petrobras, it drilled the first exploration well in the Libra area offshore Brazil. Petrobras then cancelled its leases for 5 offshore drilling and production vessels and the Cerrado was included in this list of victims.
The Cerrado was built at Samsung Heavy in 2011 and has similar specs as Transocean’s “Ex-Ocean Rig†6th generation drillships picked up through the recent company acquisition that closed December 5 2018.
Some of the drillships ordered during the build period of the comparison vessels where in the range of $600 million.
The folks over at Bassoe Analytics currently value the rig between 9 -14 million.
Could someone out there pick up the Paros and upgrade it with another equipment package to make it marketable again? Seems like a value to pick up for 9-14 million, original worth of 600 million.. that’s some depreciation for you.
