Brazilian conglomerate, Odebrecht, has recently won a contract for the construction of an oil refinery in the Cabinda province of Angola. The US$920 million project will be undertaken by Odebrecht Engineering and Construction Company with installation works expected to commence between April and May of 2021 and project completion expected in 2022.

The project will be initiated within three stages, with the first focused on refining 30,000 bpd, the second 60,000 bpd, and the third allowing for the production of additional products including gasoline and diesel. The refinery is expected to significantly reduce oil imports across the country through the increase in refining capacity, and further establish the country as a top crude oil exporter. Additionally, the project is anticipating the creation of approximately 2,000 direct and indirect jobs spurring socio-economic growth across the country.

The Cabinda Refinery is a key pillar of the Angolan government’s strategy to develop its refining and transporting sector and will be developed in three phases.
