Transocean to sign a new charter contract with Petrobras. The company took the lead in the oil company’s new request for quotation aimed at the international bid to carry out a drilling campaign in the Tayrona area, located offshore Colombia.

According to PetróleoHoje, the two companies have already settled most of the commercial terms. The conclusion of the deal basically depends on the approval of Petrobras’ partners. The Brazilian oil company’s campaign in Colombia involves the drilling of a single well in deep waters.

The campaign will start soon after the signing of the contract in April. The Development Driller III semi-submersible offered by Transocean in the tender is located in Trinidad & Tobago, where it has run recent campaigns for BHP, Shell and ExxonMobil.

The bid notice was launched in November 2019. Petrobras was not successful with the original bid, launching a new process. The oil company’s initial plan was to run the campaign from September to November 2020.

The negotiation process is being conducted with the Transocean team abroad. It is the first time that the two companies discuss the charter of the Development Driller III rig.

The contract provides that the unit will be chartered for a period of 80 days. The campaign will be carried out in a water depth of about 1,000 m.

The rig contracting aims to ensure compliance with the minimum exploratory program for the Tayrona project. Although the previous campaign had indicated the presence of gas, Petrobras’ expects the new well turns to the existence of oil.

This will be Petrobras’ second exploratory campaign in Tayrona, a block operated in partnership with Ecopetrol, Repsol and Equinor. The consortium has already drilled two wells in the asset.

The first discovery of the area was made in 2014, with the drilling of Orca-1. The campaign was carried out by the Petrobras 10,000 rig, operated by Transocean.

The Tayrona block is located 40 km off the coast of La Guajira. Petrobras has been operating in the Colombian Caribbean since 2004.

Transocean currently has three drillships operating for Petrobras – Deepwater Mykonos, Deepwater Corcovado and Petrobras 10,000, with a charter agreement until 2023.

Semisub rig owner Dolphin Drilling has inked a new contract with Peak Petroleum in Nigeria for its 1974-built Blackford Dolphin.   The firm contract, which follows the letter of award in January, gives the Euronext Growth-listed owner of three rigs the potential to extend the unit’s backlog by a minimum of 120 days and up to 485 days. The deal adds to and will be a direct continuation of the previously announced 12-month contract with General Hydrocarbon Limited (GHL).   Øystein Stray Spetalen-backed company said the effective dayrate associated with the minimum firm period of the contract is $325,000, including the mobilisation fee.   “The final award of the contract for Blackford Dolphin shows the opportunities in Nigeria at a strong dayrate, in addition to building on the backlog for the rig. It also underlines the attractiveness of our assets, and we look forward to returning to revenue-generating operations in 2023,” noted Bjørnar Iversen, CEO of Dolphin Drilling.   Source: Dolphin   Join our mailing list here We are #1 on Google and Bing for the "Largest Mobile Energy Network" Come join our community!
